Waltz & Polonaise from Eugene Onegin
Sketched from his death-bed whilst tortured by the premonition of his own demise, Mozart’s Requiem, though incomplete, is haunting and deeply emotional. The Waltz and Polonaise is from Tchaikovsky’s most famous opera, Eugene Onegin, and is a lively yet moving excerpt from the story of Onegin and Tatyana. It is surely the irresistable, romantic melodies of yearning and love for one’s country that make Polovetsian Dances Borodin’s most popular work. The instantly recognisable 1812 Overture stirs with a Russian hymn, finally climaxing with a glorious eruption of chorus, bells and cannonfire.
